I'm serious, this is an ad
Nobody loves ads. Ads suck. But they fuel the free internet on which many of us grew up. I could access great websites like YouTube, Facebook, Google, and many others for free thanks to the "ads + attention" business model that the internet ran on for decades.
I grew up on the internet, spending countless hours getting entertained but learning so much more than I could possibly imagine. I was learning on the internet so much more than I was at school - random facts, celebrity gossip analysis, physics, god debates, computer science. I realize now that I was watching ads all my life. Everybody was advertising something. Even an innocent educational video was essentially an ad – advertising a concept, an idea that they wanted people to adopt.
So, maybe ads aren't bad after all. Perhaps we need to make better ads. Maybe ads that try to sell us something we already care about, like happiness, love, well-being, and community. We could use ads that push us to be better versions of ourselves by suggesting truly transformative, self-actualizing actions.
So what am I advertising?
I'm advertising this blog series!
It will be fun and short. It will suggest things that might be good for you, and if you choose to try them out, you can see for yourself if it actually works. But regardless, I hope you enjoy the ads.
